A new art
In the last prac, Dr G made a very valid statement about programming: He mentioned that there was some level of artistry to it and i must say, i agree with him...
There are those who would believe that anybody who is illogical or who is strongly creative has no business writing programs - but is a programming language not still a language? Is it therefore not worth assuming that even these languages can have their poetry equivalents?
I can tell you that i have seem pointer manipulations that have actually made me excited. And there are some recursive functions that have completely blow my mind, once i have understood them.
You should notice how some people seem to have a gift for smoothe code, that seems to stroke, rather than force, the machine into doing what it should do. These are the hidden, unwitting poets of the computer labs.
But there are other implications: one quick glance around the current cos 214 class will treat you to eyeful of all the repeating students. This is a sure sign that few people really know how to communicate with computers.
try to think of it this way: a prac doesnt have to seem like more work that needs to get done - in a very strange, hard-to-believe kind of way it is actually a chance to express yourself...
